Our friend Katharine MacPhail has been running an awesome podcast, Talking Home Renovations, in which she interviews folks restoring and transforming mostly old homes to get their insight, wisdom, and tips. It really is a unique series of conversations as its almost all actual homeowners talking about their specific experience.
We were thrilled to be invited to join Katharine on one of the most recent episodes, Modern Living in Old Houses. We shared our old house journey and dove into some of the following:
- The funny, accidental turn of events that led us to suddenly switch gears from modern new-build to Victorian heritage home
- How we think about sustainability in the restoration we’re doing on our own house: embodied carbon and operating efficiency, and the trade offs between those things
- How buying used and second-hand has saved us over $200,000 in two years, and a whole lot of embodied carbon
Check out the fun conversation on Spotify here or wherever you listen to your podcasts!
And thanks, Katharine, for having us on!
